Course Aims

The course provides experience with

■ independent study, under academic supervision, of an appropriately chosen mathematical topic;

■ effective engagement with mathematical literature;

■ written presentation of that material in scientific typesetting software.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ carry out an independent study of a mathematical topic under academic supervision;

■ integrate knowledge and skills obtained in lecture courses with the study of mathematical literature and other sources of mathematical knowledge into a coherent piece of research;

■ demonstrate skills in the written presentation of mathematical contents using appropriate mathematical typesetting software;

■ demonstrate the skill of effective time management through the timely delivery of the report.
