That December fixture in UofG life, DJ's staff Christmas Party, raised £5,400 for children's charity.

DJ (Derek Johnston) hands over a cheque for £5,400 to Carolyn Thornton, the Scottish Fundraising Manager for the event's main charity beneficiary, Make-A -Wish UK. That December fixture in UofG life, DJ's staff Christmas Party, raised a record total, bringing the overall amount raised for children's charity in recent years to £19, 664.

Organised by Derek Johnston, Clerk of Works with Estates and Commercial Services, the event has been running for several years. A highlight of the party is always a guest appearance by 'stars of the 70s', together with a disco, karaoke, raffle and buffet. (Some of the stars of the 70s appear to bear an uncanny resemblance to Derek himself!)

The 2017 version of the Christmas party raised £5,400, the biggest single amount raised from any of Derek's events in their five-year history. As ever, the 2017 look-alike stars included 1970's legends Showaddywaddy and Slade!

Derek said: "I just want to express my deep thanks to all the friends, colleagues, contacts and external contractors who stepped forward to offer their help and to offer financial support to make the Christmas party a success this year.  It is truly appreciated."

Make a Wish charity certificate for the sum riased by the 2017 DJ Christmas Party.
