Three local artists have created a series of large murals with the Library.

Over the last couple of weeks the University has been commissioning three local artists to create a series of large murals with the Library. The work of Chelsea Frew, Barry Jenkins and Martin Karpisz has brightened up some of the blank wall spaces within the Library, on Level 1 and the East and South stairwells.

Library murals

As the University develops existing and new buildings, we will be looking for opportunities to commission and display different pieces of art. Alongside offering a welcome addition to the Library, the murals are piloting designs for the kind of public art which will eventually be on display in the Learning and Teaching Hub and the wider campus.

Students and staff are encouraged to comment on the work on social media using the hashtag #UofGMurals or by emailing kate.powell@glasgow.ac.uk. Please hlep us by letting us know what you would like to see more of.

Chelsea Frew, who created the two large murals on Level 1 said: “I wanted to try to bring people down here because it was always quite quiet so it's getting people to come and look and search for a space, and then when they're in that space then create a less formal atmosphere.

"The two scenes capture two different elements of Scotland; I chose Glasgow because it's nice to be able to recognise elements and see things you know, but also the landscape on the other wall because it's an opposing piece, but you can still appreciate them together at the same time."
