Feedback from staff and visitors at the University’s first Saturday Open Day was overwhelmingly positive with more than 6000 registrations for the event. The level of interest even surpassed June’s long running weekday Open Day event. Since visitors aren’t required to check in, attendance is difficult to gauge however all venues in use during the day were busy with a great atmosphere throughout.winter open day

Jonathan Jones, Deputy Director - UK Recruitment and Widening Participation, said: “As well as all of the traditional Open Day talks, tours and activities, there were also lots of little demonstrations of the Glasgow welcome, from visitors who missed the last Accommodation Tour bus that were put in a taxi so they didn’t miss out, to academics who put on extra talks to cope with interest in their subjects or took late arriving visitors under their wing. “I’d also like to thank all the support staff who cleaned, catered, smiled, set things up and pointed visitors in the right direction.”

By adding a Saturday event, the University of Glasgow is moving closer to the standard Russell Group model of best practice, including our key competitors of Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield and Newcastle. Most of these universities have four Open Days for prospective students per annum, two of which typically fall on Saturdays. Prior to this weekend’s event, Glasgow was only offering two mid-week Open Days.

If you have any feedback on the day, either its preparation or the on-the-day experience, please do not hesitate to let Jonathan know at jonathan.jones@glasgow.ac.uk, x3616.
