The leading filmmaker and critic, Mark Cousins, will present an edited version of his latest film in the Andrew Stewart Cinema at the University of Glasgow at 6pm on Tuesday 8 May.

The Story of Film: An Odyssey, written and directed by Cousins, is a fifteen-hour film, which charts a history of cinema. A landmark in film history, The Story of Film displays Cousins’ encyclopaedic knowledge of world cinema and is currently playing in festivals and galleries around the world - from the Berlinale to New York’s Museum of Modern Art – to considerable and justified critical acclaim.

To mark its release on DVD, the University will be screening a 67 minute cut that includes some of the filmmaker’s favourite moments – including Japanese cinema of the 1930s, The Third Man, Star Wars, the great African film Brightness, and the movies of Gus Van Sant – and Cousins will be present to discuss the six year production process with his producer, John Archer of Glasgow’s Hopscotch Films.

Director Mark Cousins will introduce the film and be in conversation with Dr David Archibald following the screening.

Attendance is free but seats will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

The DVD of The Story of Film: An Odyssey is released in the UK on 23 April 2012.
