Outside In is a migrant-led photography exhibition about how people from all around the world influence Scotland. It tells the stories of those who are here because of love, ancestry, work, education, war, persecution, and for many other reasons. Some chose to move here, but others found themselves in Scotland due to events beyond their control. There are also the descendants of people who came here because of the Scottish role in global history, including colonisation.

People from all backgrounds have become our neighbours, colleagues, mentors, friends, or family members. Their traditions, ideas, and professional expertise make Scotland more vibrant, sustainable, healthier, and fairer for all.

Outside In is part of the Putting Ourselves in the Picture project by Migrant Voice, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The project aims to ensure that migrant heritage is documented and recognised as part of Scotland’s heritage.

Outside In first exhibited in 2024 at Maryhill Burgh Halls.

About Migrant Voice

Migrant Voice established in 2010 as a migrant-led national organisation, building a community of migrant voices to speak for themselves and call for justice for all. They put migrant voices at the centre of the migration debate by developing the skills and confidence of migrants, including asylum seekers and refugees across the UK.

They speak out in the media, on public platforms, in communities, on the streets or in cultural settings to create positive change in society: countering xenophobia, forging new ties, running campaigns, strengthening communities, influencing policy and bringing justice.
