The Université de Poitiers is one of the oldest universities in Europe, founded in 1431 by Pope Eugene IV. Its student population amounts to approximately 24,000 students.

Poitiers is a city and major university centre in west-central France. The centre of the town is picturesque and predominantly shaped by historical architecture, especially religious architecture from the Romanesque period. Poitiers used to be known as the ‘town of 100 bell towers’. Today, 25% of the population are students.
