University of Groningen, Netherlands

The University of Groningen was founded in 1614 and is one of the oldest Dutch universities.

Groningen is, with a population of just under 200,000, the largest city in the north of the Netherlands. Dating back to 1040, Groningen has long been a regional centre in the northern Netherlands. It is a university town, with two universities and a large student population, which makes up one quarter of the population, influencing its atmposphere, bar and music scene and nightlife. Groningen is a national leader in pro-cycling initiatives, creating a city centre almost free of traffic.
