How to apply
Before submitting an application for postgraduate research study, please refer to our Entry Requirements.
You may wish to consult the research pages of the School or subject area to which you propose to apply and make informal contact with the relevant Postgraduate Convener or individual members of staff with research interests close to yours, but do bear in mind that a formal offer can only be made after a complete application is submitted and processed.
To submit an application for postgraduate research study, you must complete the online application form, including the following steps:
- upload a transcript of your degree results
- secure two references
We prefer you to arrange for references to be sent in sealed envelopes directly to us by your referees. However, referees may also email references using their institutional address and citing your name and the degree applied for in the subject line. Emailed references should be sent to: Susan.Howel@glasgow.ac.uk. Postal references should be sent to the Postgraduate Administrator, College of Arts, 6 University Gardens, Glasgow G12 8QH. - complete and upload a Research Proposal of around 1000 words, having made reference to our Guidelines for Research Proposals
- upload a sample of your academic writing (e.g. an essay or a chapter from a thesis, etc)
- if necessary, provide evidence of proficiency in English
