How to apply

 

Before submitting an application for postgraduate research study, please read our Entry Requirements and our Guidance notes for Postgraduate Research Student Applicants.

You may wish to consult the research pages of the School or subject area to which you propose to apply and make informal contact with the relevant Postgraduate Convener or individual members of staff with research interests close to yours, but do bear in mind that a formal offer can only be made after a complete application is submitted and processed.

To submit an application for postgraduate research study, you need to:

- complete the online application form, including the following steps:

- upload a transcript of your degree results

- secure two references (we prefer you to arrange for references to be sent in signed and sealed envelopes directly to us by your referees. Referees may also email references using their institutional address and citing your name and the degree applied for in the subject line. Email references for Postgraduate Research should be sent to:  susan.howel@glasgow.ac.uk, references sent by post should be sent to Postgraduate Research Applications, College of Arts, 6 University Gardens, Glasgow G12 8QH)

- complete and upload a  Research Proposal Outline Form  (see also Research Proposals: Some Guidelines)

 - upload a sample of your academic writing (e.g. an essay or a chapter from a thesis, etc)

- if necessary, provide evidence of proficiency in English.

Whilst we prefer applications to be completed and submitted online, you can also download the application form (pdf) and send it, along with all the attachments, by post to "Postgraduate Research Applications, College of Arts, 6 University Gardens, Glasgow G12 8QH".
