Research Interests

Active research interests centre on: women, crime and criminal justice (esp. women who commit violent offences); youth crime and youth justice  (esp. the Children's Hearing System in Scotland); critical and feminist criminology; poststructuralist theories of penality and social control (incl. the work of Michael Foucault and Pierre Bourdieu); cultural criminology and the sociology of risk (esp. young women's risk-seeking behaviour); young people and the media (esp. the representation of teen sexuality and youth violence); and violence and social harm (incl. youth gangs, knife crime, and domestic abuse).
