Admissions to the MBChB degree programme Partner Medical Schools:

St Andrews University, the University Brunei Darussalam and the International Medical University (IMU) in Malaysia

Your first year – MBChB Year 3

Students entering the MBChB Course from Universities of St Andrews, IMU (International Medical University, Malaysia) and UBD (University Brunei Darussalam) will join Glasgow Medical students at the start of the third year of the MBChB course.

A guide for students, tutors and clinical staff can be found here.

Introductory Course

We will email you with all the essential information in August (once the numbers and the contact details of the transfer students are confirmed by partner schools) and we will also arrange a welcome/integration event prior commencing Phase 3. This year’s Welcome Event is planned for the 6th & 9th of September, 9.30 – 12.30pm, please save the dates!

Year 3 will begin with two induction/introductory weeks designed to brief you on the nature and the content of the course you are joining as well as deliver clinical procedural skills and communication skills; these will be followed by the 15 week-long Phase 3.  Under the continued restrictions and as the situation becomes clearer with the current pandemic, we have worked with the university and have amended delivery of the Phase 3 material in Semester 1 to make largely online, however we will require students to attend clinical practice/GP placements face-to-face.

We will start Y3 on Monday the 6th of September with clinical skills/communication skills teaching and the ward etiquette teaching. We will provide colloquial English classes for IMU/Brunei students in the same week induction/integration weeks and will aim to establish MedicFamilies to help your transition/integration.

We would like to assure you of our best intention to make your transition to Glasgow course as smooth as possible and your learning as efficient and productive as can be. We appreciate that online learning is not what you all signed up for, however we are very much guided by local (university) or national (government) directives in these unprecedented times.

You may want to familiarise yourselves with the content of our Years 1 & 2 course during the summer months and compare with syllabi from your own institutions – the links to each year intended learning outcomes are hyperlinked below. Our course content from early years will largely align with the curriculum from the partner medical Schools (harmonised each year) and covers basic Biomedical Sciences, system by system.

It is also a good idea to familiarise yourselves with the University’s main webpage, where you can find a plethora of useful information about Glasgow, student representative council, various student societies, accommodation and such, not least about the course you will be joining.

It might be of interest to you to read about major scientific discoveries by our internationally renowned researchers working in research-intensive institutes and schools that form our College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences (UG medical school is part of this college).
