Short Description

This course aims to provide students with a critical understanding of factors which may influence exercise performance and will also explore how these factors can be harness or mitigated to enhance performance.

Timetable

Teaching takes place over 30 hours in Semester 2 with students attending lectures, tutorials, practical classes and workshops.

Course Aims

This course aims to provide students with background knowledge and skill on how to prepare athletes for sport including preparation of teams and individuals. Students will be provided with a critical understanding of various approaches required for athletes to perform well and the challenges they might face delivering sport and exercise medicine in practice.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

  • Critically discuss the role of antidoping and drugs in sport
  • Critically discuss medicolegal aspects of sports medicine practice
  • Critically evaluate preparation strategies for individuals and teams
  • Undertake practical sessions exploring the strategies needed to prepare athlete.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course’s summative assessment.
