Short Description

Students will learn about the aetiology and pathology of a number of chronic diseases and the role of physical activity in their prevention and management.

Timetable

Teaching takes place over 30 hours in Semester 1 with students attending lectures, practical classes and workshops.

  • 50% Portfolio of clinical conditions (2000 words)
  • 50% Clinical Presentation (10-15 minutes)

Course Aims

This course aims to provide students with a critical understanding of the aetiology and pathology of a number of chronic diseases and the role of physical activity in their prevention and management.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

  • Critically discuss the pathophysiology of a number of chronic diseases.
  • Critically discuss and evaluate the role of exercise to prevent and treat a number of chronic diseases.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of applied practice in exercise prescriptions for clinic.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course’s summative assessment.
