Transcripts (HEAR) for Former Students

Our transcripts provide an overview of your studies at The University of Glasgow.

Please note that your transcript details your entire academic career at the University of Glasgow and we cannot omit or censor any information. We do not sign transcripts by hand as there is a printed signature provided on every transcript.

Standard Information
The following information is included as standard on all of our transcripts.

  • Personal details (name, date of birth, student number)
  • Overall course details (level of study, programme of study, language of instruction)
  • Individual course details (course titles, credits, grades)
  • Award date and class of degree awarded (if applicable)

Grade point average, or GPA is not included on your transcript. We do not provide any grade equivalency documents for other countries or Universities. Our transcripts include your SCQF (Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework) and ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits. Please note we are also unable to add your class ranking to your transcript.

Transcripts for Qualifications Completed Prior to 1989
Unfortunately we cannot issue any transcripts for courses completed prior to 1989. In place of a transcript we can offer a Certifying Letter which confirms your award and graduation date.

Transcripts for Qualifications Completed between 1989 and 2011
Modular teaching and grading were introduced at the University of Glasgow from 1989, and the standardised Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) transcript format was introduced from 2011. This this means that for alumni who graduated between 1989 and 2011, depending on the records kept for each individual course, we unfortunately may not be able to produce a transcript. In this case we will offer a Certificate of Student Status instead. Where we can produce a transcript, it may not include a detailed list of courses and grades, and may instead include partial information or a summary of the overall grades and or credits achieved for each year.

Bachelor of Education or Postgraduate Certificate in Education Transcripts Prior to 1999
If you studied a BEd or PGCE at Notre Dame College of Education, Craiglockhart College of Education or St Andrews College (Bearsden) prior to 1999 then you will need to contact the school of education directly to request a transcript. You can e-mail them at:

  • education-ugandite@glasgow.ac.uk

Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing School Transcripts Prior to 1996
Please note that some transcripts for students who studied with the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing prior to 1996 (but after 1989) are produced by the Medical School Library and then sent via post by the Student Services Enquiry Team. This may increase the length of time it takes to complete your request as the Medical School have a turn around time of 7 working days to produce these transcripts.

World Education Services
The University of Glasgow and World Education Services (WES) have an established process through which digital copies of transcripts can be uploaded to WES directly using their secure file transfer protocol system. A WES Academic Records Request form is not required.

If you require your transcript to be sent to WES please be sure to specifically state this in the additional information section of your application form and include your WES reference number.
