Glasgow University
Mountaineering Club
Founded 1938

Glasgow University Mountaineering Club (GUMC) is one of the largest – and certainly most active – clubs in the University. Anything that can be done in the great outdoors, we do it! Hillwalking, scrambling, rock-climbing, ice-climbing, wild swimming...

We go away every fortnight to a community hall or bothy somewhere in Scotland or further afield; from here we go out as individuals or in groups to complete our desired adventure. One of the perks of joining the club is you get access to our gear store, so you can borrow kit to get you out into the hills safely, even if you are a beginner! We also get subsidised access to courses which will develop your hillwalking/climbing skills when you get hooked...

Social Events

We meet every Wednesday evening at Dram! on Woodlands Road for a casual social – this is also where sign-up takes place for each meet, every fortnight. We also have other social events throughout the year, including ceilidhs and pub crawls. Join our social media pages to get updates.

Training

We have informal bouldering sessions on Monday evenings at TCA Newsroom and Wednesday afternoons at TCA Propstore (close to Murano) – pop by and spot the GUMC T-shirts if you fancy a chat! The top climbers each year have a chance to compete at BUCS – speak to a committee member if you want more info about this.

Further Info

Come along to our Cheese and Wine evening in September to hear more about our adventures and become a member! If you miss this, you can join any time through the year – see our website for more info.
