Mandatory Courses

All new PGRs must complete the following mandatory courses during their first year of study. Expand the links below for more information.

Research Integrity

The Research Integrity course is introductory and multidisciplinary. It will introduce you to the wider context for Research Integrity to encourage you to reflect how this might work in practice for your subject area. Some topics will resonate more than others and these should be discussed in more depth with your supervisor and colleagues. We signpost you to further sources of support and expert help.

A programme of optional, additional webinars for PGRs is also running in 2022-2023: these will give the opportunity to go into more depth on specific Research Integrity topics such as plagiarism, authorship, open research and more. These will be advertised by email. More information on Research Integrity and all its associated topics can be found on the website: https://www.gla.ac.uk/myglasgow/ris/researchpolicies/researchintegrity/.

Introduction to Research Data Management for PGRs

Publicly funded research is a public good. When data are created as part of academic research, they should be carefully stored, managed and, wherever possible, shared. This course introduces researchers to examples of good research data practice, illustrated with real-life examples. Topics include the data lifecycle; funder compliance; and what should happen to your data when you graduate.

The course is designed for researchers in their first year of postgraduate study but is also suitable for researchers in other years who have not received training in research data management. This course will also help researchers to prepare their data management plans, which are now a mandatory component of the first Annual Progress Review.
