Revised Equality and Diversity Policy

The University has reviewed and revised our Equality and Diversity Policy.

The University has reviewed and revised our Equality and Diversity Policy. The Equality and Diversity Policy outlines the aim of the University to:

…create a learning and working environment based on fostering good relations between all people, with a shared commitment to promoting respect for all and challenging and preventing stereotyping, prejudice, discrimination and harassment.

In line with the Equality Act 2010 and the updated language relating to protected characteristics, the University’s Equality and Diversity Policy aligns all previous equality policies for age, disability, gender (sex), race, religion and belief and sexual orientation, each now having their own appendices in the overarching policy. The new Equality and Diversity Policy also includes information for staff and students who are going through, or are supporting colleagues/students through, gender reassignment.

Reference is made to pregnancy and maternity in the sex (gender) section, however the maternity policy applies in this instance. In addition, there is an appendix on refugees and asylum seekers to reflect the ongoing work in this area.

This policy has been approved by Court and Senate, and we would encourage all members of the University community to familiarise themselves with its content. The full policy is available here - http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/humanresources/equalitydiversity/policy/equalitypolicy/

To support the roll out of the new Equality and Diversity Policy all staff are encouraged to complete the online Equality Essentials training course, information on which is available here - http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/humanresources/equalitydiversity/training/e-learning/
