There is still time to apply for funding from the International Partnership Development Fund for 2013-14 – but members of staff are being urged not to delay as the current funding round closes in July.

Professor James Conroy, Vice Principal (Internationalisation) has underlined the importance of partnership development to the University’s internationalisation strategy. The IPDF, with match-funding from Colleges, supports partnership building and collaboration with universities in key countries, enhancing the University of Glasgow’s global reach and reputation.

Each year, funding worth £60,000 is available to support staff engaged in these activities.  IPDF-funded projects normally lead to some form of collaborative programme, but may also include the development of international curricula, joint PhDs, collaborative research, or the establishment of mobility or placement opportunities.

Over the six years since the IPDF was set up, it has contributed to and helped facilitate many of the University’s most high-profile international initiatives, including the IMCREES Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters, the Ngee Ann Summer School, and the recent cross-university partnership with Sun Yatsen. Smaller projects have also been fostered, including a collaboration between the Universities of Glasgow and Culcutta supporting two Indian postgraduate students who are investigating the links between Glasgow and Kew Gardens involving the botanists Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker (1817-1911) and his father, Sir William Jackson Hooker, Regius Professor of Botany at the University of Glasgow from 1820 until 1841, and the first official Director of Kew Gardens. www.gla.ac.uk/news/headline_314703_en.html.

Awards from the IPDF tend not to exceed £5,000 per recipient but each application is assessed on its merit. Applying  for funding support can be a quick process; anyone interested should contact their College International Leads for match funding www.gla.ac.uk/about/internationalisation/contacts/.
