Funding and Discounts
Am I eligible for a funded place?
To be eligible for a funded place, you must be Scottish-domiciled and/or work for an organisation based in Scotland.
Are there discounts available?
Yes. A 20% discount is available to NHS, Civil Service and Third Sector employees. A 10% discount is available to UofG alumni and for group bookings.
I have booked a self-funded place. Can I cancel?
If you are purchasing a course, payment is required 7 days prior to the course start date. Refunds can be claimed within 7 days after the course start date if you change your mind.
To request a refund, please email the Upskilling Team citing your Student ID.
Entry and Registration
Am I qualified to take an Upskilling course?
It is suggested that Upskilling learners are educated to at least Undergraduate level for Postgraduate-level courses, and SQCF level 6 for Undergraduate-level courses. Alternatively, you may have substantial work experience. This information can be found on the respective course webpages. You will not be asked to prove your academic or professional history.
All learners must have an IELTS (English Language Test Result) equivalent of 6.5.
If you are unsure, please email the Upskilling Team citing the relevant course name.
When will I hear if my application has been successful?
You will receive an email informing you of your application status within 4 to 6 weeks of submitting your Admissions Form.
How do I accept my Unconditional Offer?
If you have been granted a place on a course, you will not be required to formally accept your offer. Your admission will be processed automatically.
Upon processing, you will receive an email from UofG thanking you for accepting your offer and citing an incorrect start date. This is automatic and can be ignored.
I have submitted my Admissions Form. What's next?
Please allow 4-6 weeks for your Admissions Form to be processed.
You will then receive an Access Account Notification email (AAN) including instructions on how to complete Academic Registration. Once complete, your place on the course will be secured.
Once your application has been processed, you will receive an email from UofG thanking you for accepting your offer. This is automatic and can be ignored.
I have been allocated a funded place. Do I need to complete Financial Registration?
Upskilling learners are not required to complete Financial Registration. If you choose to complete it, no payment will be taken.
All Upskilling learners must complete Academic Registration. Once you have completed Academic Registration, your place is secure, and you are a fully registered UofG student.
Do I need to complete Visa Registration?
Regardless of your UK settlement status, you do not have to complete Visa Registration to undertake an Upskilling course. This is because our courses take place 100% online.
You must complete Academic Registration, but all elements of Financial Registration can be ignored.
I have completed Academic Registration and am now a fully registered UofG student. How do I enrol?
You cannot enrol yourself on an Upskilling course. Enrolment is processed by the Upskilling Team in the weeks prior to the course commencing.
Once you are enrolled, you will receive a confirmation email. This is the last email you will receive to your personal email address. You must now login to your student email account using the GUID and password provided in your Access Account Notification email (AAN).
How do I access my student email account?
Using the GUID and password provided in your Access Account Notification email (AAN), login to MyGlasgow. Scroll down to the Office 365 element and select Outlook.
I have been enrolled. Why can’t I access Moodle?
In the days approaching your course start date, you will receive an email to your new student inbox giving you access to Moodle, the virtual learning platform where you will access all course content.
It can take up to 24 hours for the system to grant access to new learners.
Courses
What are the benefits of taking these courses?
Our Upskilling courses offer several benefits, including increased employability, earning potential, and professional confidence. Upon completion, you will acquire valuable skills in your chosen area of study. You also have the option to undergo assessments and earn academic credits, which can contribute to your continued professional development. At the end of the course, you can download a HEAR transcript displaying your grades.
Please note that our standard regulations do not allow re-enrollment in a course, even if credit was not awarded in a previous attempt.
How are these courses delivered?
All Upskilling courses are delivered online through Moodle, our virtual learning platform. You will be able to access Moodle within 24 hours of completing Academic Registration.
Lectures are pre-recorded and not time-sensitive, meaning you can work through the course content in your own time.
What is the time commitment required to complete a course?
All Upskilling courses are either 5 or 10 weeks long. You are encouraged to work through the course content in your own time, but we suggest setting aside 8 to 10 hours per week.
Will there be compulsory assessments?
All Upskilling courses include at least one assessment, but if you are taking a course for the sole purpose of professional development and do not wish to acquire Academic Credits, submission is not compulsory.
However, if you do wish to acquire Academic Credits, you must complete and submit the required assessments. Alternatively, you may request an extension.
Specific descriptions of assessments can be found on individual course webpages.
You will receive a HEAR transcript upon completion of a course, regardless of whether or not you completed the assessment(s).
For Learners
Why is my MyGlasgow timetable empty?
Because Upskilling courses are fully flexible and course material can be accessed at any time, there are no set timetables.
Will I receive a student card as an Upskilling learner?
Because Upskilling courses take place online and require no on-campus contact, learners do not receive a student card.
Can I access the library as an Upskilling learner?
Because Upskilling courses take place online and require no on-campus contact, learners have access to the University’s online library resources, but not the physical library.
I'm experiencing difficulties while doing my course. What should I do?
Each course has a dedicated Administrator who can advise where support is available. If you are experiencing any issues while undergoing a course, please contact your Administrator via the Mailbox published on the course Moodle page. Should you wish to drop or withdraw from your course, they will be able to assist you.
