Spieghel was from Brussels and took his doctorate at Padua, where he was appointed successor to Casserio. He published nothing in his lifetime.

In this plate the figure is posed against a lush pastoral landscape to display to best advantage the superficial musculature of the back, especially that of the scapular region.
