The study of philosophy at Glasgow builds on a prestigious history that includes the achievements of great thinkers such as Francis Hutcheson, Adam Smith and Thomas Reid.

We continue our tradition of excellence with research and teaching expertise in:

  • ethics and aesthetics
  • political philosophy
  • philosophy of religion; and
  • the history of philosophy.

We currently have almost 1,000 undergraduate students, of whom over 180 are honours students. We have a lively graduate community of 25-30 postgraduates. Our final year undergraduates report satisfaction levels of 95%, according to the 2011 National Student Survey.
