Student Network

The Student Network aims to provide first year students with support and advice from current students who can help with subject related questions or just general issues related to studying at the University of Glasgow.

It is free to join and open to all undergraduate students studying at the University of Glasgow.

How does it work?

We employ current undergraduate students (as Peer Mentors) from 2nd, 3rd and 4th year, from across the University, to maintain regular e-mail contact with our first year members.

Register with us and then a student from your course/faculty will get in touch with you. You can then contact them at any time for advice on a range of issues.

What's in it for me?

Student Network Peer Mentors can be contacted by e-mail and can guarantee a swift response. they have all successfully coompleted firt year and are happy to answer questions on issues including: information about courses; study skills; essays; exams; stress and how to use the library.

As a member of the Network you will also be invited to help us with various activities throughout the year. This is a great chance for you to meet students from across the University, gain experience to add to your C.V. and make some extra money in a way that fits in sympathetically with your studies.

Below is a summary of some of the events we run throughout the academic year: -

  • Freshers' Week/Orientation Programme: Students run all out programmed events during Fresher's week and the Orientation Program.
  • School Visits to the University: Throughout the academic year we need students, from first year and beyond, to help us with school (from primary school right through to secondary) visits to the University.
  • Open Days and Campus Tours: We recruit student members of the Network to help on University Open Days and with campus tours for prospective students.
  • Student-Led Workshops: We are always looking for proposals from current students wishing to offer workshops. Support and advice on running these would be provided by Student Network staff. For example 2003-04 we ran a series of Creative Writing workshops.

Peer Mentoring

We recruit students, from every department in the University, who would be willing to provide informal support and advice on issues related to studying at the university of Glasgow. If you would like more information on this then please contact us at the address below.

What's New?

Creative Writing Anthology: We have recently published an anthology of writing by students who attended last year's Creative Writing workshops. If you would like a copy it is available free of charge from the Student Network - see contact details below.

Creative Writing Workshops: Starting January 2005 we are offering free, informal, student-led workshops to ALL undergraduate students studying at the University. If you are interested in attending please contact us at the address below.
