English as a Foreign Language
The English as a Foreign Language (EFL Unit) prepares overseas students for study at the University on Pre-sessional courses . Advice on course length can be found at Student Study Guidelines.
We also support them during their study on the In-sessional Courses: English and Study Skills (ESS) programme.
We run General English, and other courses for specific purposes.
For Teacher Training, the Unit offers Introductory ( CELTA & Introduction to TESOL ) In-service ( Teaching Methodology ) and Masters level ( MEd ELT ) courses.

Japanese university students can attend courses that combine English language and academic courses as outlined in the Study Abroad Catalogue with classes in Scottish, UK and European culture.
EFL Moodle sites
The University uses the web-based e-learning system Moodle to provide Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) to support its activities.
The EFL Unit is developing a number of Moodles for its own programmes. You will be informed of these as necessary by your course tutors.
