ECDL Advanced

Since The European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) was first introduced at the University in 2000, over 400 candidates have successfully achieved their certificates.  If you would like to further your Office application skills and gain an advanced qualification ECDL Advanced is the next step.

ECDL Advanced will allow you to demonstrate your higher level computer skills.  You can demonstrate that you are confident, competent and efficient in a range of applications.

ECDL Advanced is available via BCS for the following applications -

  • Word Processing
  • Spreadsheets
  • Databases
  • Presentations

Here at the University we are able to offer testing on all ECDL Advanced Modules.

You can take tests in any of the modules individually to receive an ECDL Advanced certificate for that application.

If you successfully pass all 4 Advanced modules you can apply for the ECDL Expert Certificate, which is free.  This is available on request only and is not automatically sent on completion of the fourth module.  You will also be eligible to apply for Associate Membership of the British Computer Society (AMBS), with a 20% discount on the first year's membership fee.

What if I need training before I sit the tests?

A number of IT Services' regular courses are suitable for those preparing for these ECDL Advanced qualifications.  Course details can be found on our main Training web page (free of charge to staff and students of the University.  External candidates would require to pay a fee).

What do I need to know to pass the tests?

Candidates should be familiar with the syllabus that will be examined: all modules have a published syllabus. Please note all tests can be carried out on Office 2003, 2007 or 2010 applications.

Click the Syllabus link for full details for each module.
