Pre-sessional Summer C (5 weeks)
Pre-sessional Summer C is an intensive advanced level course that gives you the specialised academic language and study skills you need for your academic subject.
Subject-Specific Groups
All students are placed on the following specialist courses (click to see their subject-specific content):
- Accounting & Finance
- Arts & Social Sciences
- Law
- Management
- Medical Science
- Science, Engineering & Technology
If you are not sure which of these courses is appropriate for you please contact us to discuss this.
ENTRY
We recommend IELTS 6.5, minimum 6.0 in all skills or equivalent.
Direct entry to this course is normally intended for students who already have or are very near their required English level, and who need to become familiar with the academic skills and language within their own subject area. If your scores are slightly below the recommended level, please send us your current scores in IELTS or another internationally recognised English language test to help us make a decision.
NOTE: For the 5-week course, we do not normally accept applications with:
- Writing at 5.5 or below
- more than one skill at 5.5
EXIT
At the end of the 10 weeks, successful students will be at a level equivalent to IELTS 6.5, minimum 6.0 in all skills.
You will receive a final report at the end of the course giving a grade for each skill: Listening, Reading, Writing & Speaking. If our grades match the English language conditions for your academic programme at the University of Glasgow, you will then receive an unconditional offer.
- If you need to achieve an overall 6.5, with no skill below 6.0, then you will need at least two 6.5s & two 6.0s (the average of 6.25 is rounded up to 6.5, as in the IELTS test).
NOTE: Unconditional Offers
If you have already have an unconditional offer, you will still receive a report, but your offer will be unaffected by your grades. However, if you are taking the Pre-sessional course under a joint-CAS, it is a condition of your visa that you attend the course as normal.
Higher Requirements
If you require a higher Exit level than overall 6.5, minimum 6.0 in all skills, then you must make this clear in your application, and we will adjust our entry requirements to match this. You will normally need to join the Pre-sessional at a higher entry level and/or join the course earlier.
NOTE: It is your responsibility to check the English language conditions that you are required to meet, and to make sure that you enter the course at the right level. These conditions are listed on the University course pages for each Undergraduate & Taught Postgraduate programme, and for Research degrees under the College graduate schools or on the International students' English Language Requirements page.
DATES: 29 July – 30 August 2013
Please tell us as soon as possible if you must withdraw from the course or if you think you may have to arrive late. Please note: we do not normally accept anyone onto the course who arrives after 1.00pm on the Wednesday of the first week.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: 7 June 2013
This deadline is for us to receive your application and all relevant documents such as English test scores etc.
FEE: £1,365
We prefer that students pay before they arrive. Please make sure you have arranged for sufficient money to be available before you arrive.
