Pre-sessional Summer B (10 weeks)
Pre-sessional Summer B is an intensive advanced level course that gives you a solid grounding in core academic skills as well as more specialised preparation for your academic subject.
ENTRY
IELTS 6.0, minimum 6.0 in writing (or equivalent)
These are recommended scores to ensure that you will make enough progress to achieve your required Exit level. Please send us your current scores in IELTS or another internationally recognised English language test. If your scores are slightly below the recommended level, please send us any other previous scores you have to help us make a decision.
NOTE: For the 10-week course
We do not normally accept applications with:
- any skill at 5.0 or below
- more than two skills at 5.5
If Writing is at 5.5, we require higher overall average scores to compensate: one 6.5, one 6.0, and two 5.5s, or higher.
EXIT
At the end of the 10 weeks, successful students will be at a level equivalent to IELTS 6.5, minimum 6.0 in all skills.
You will receive a final report at the end of the course giving a grade for each skill: Listening, Reading, Writing & Speaking. If our grades match the English language conditions for your academic programme at the University of Glasgow, you will then receive an unconditional offer.
If you need to achieve an overall 6.5, with no skill below 6.0, then you will need at least an average of 6.25 (the .025 is rounded up to 6.5, as in the IELTS test). This means minimum scores of:
- two 6.5s & two 6.0s
- one 7.0 & three 6.0s
Higher Requirements
If you require a higher Exit level than overall 6.5, minimum 6.0 in all skills, then you must make this clear in your application, and we will adjust our entry requirements to match this. You will normally need to join the Pre-sessional at a higher entry level and/or join the course earlier.
It is your responsibility to check the English language conditions that you are required to meet, and to make sure that you enter the course at the right level.
DATES: 23 June – 29 August 2014
Please tell us as soon as possible if you must withdraw from the course or if you think you may have to arrive late. Please note: we do not normally accept anyone onto the course who arrives after 1.00pm on the Wednesday of the first week.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: to be confirmed
This deadline is for us to receive your application and all relevant documents such as English test scores etc.
FEE: £2,650
We prefer that students pay before they arrive. Please make sure you have arranged for sufficient money to be available before you arrive.
