Abstract

Local statistics are a way to go beyond equidistribution in measuring the 'randomness' of a sequence. Those sequences can come from a wide range of sources --- from quantum mechanics to number theory --- but there appear to be few laws governing their local statistics.

We will explore those universality phenomena and discuss the methods that go into proving some of those results, using ergodic theory and analytic number theory.
