VIRTUAL SEMINAR SERIES -- INTEGRABLE SYSTEMS: Elementary calculations of complexity growth for solutions of discrete equations

Rod Halburd (UCL)

Wednesday 27th May, 2020 14:00-15:00 Zoom seminar

Abstract

I will show how only a slight extension of the standard elementary calculations done in exploring singularity confinement for a discrete equation leads to precise results on the growth of various measures of complexity of the solutions. In particular, when the equation is iterated over rational functions, the degrees can be calculated simply. Precise estimates of the growth of the height of iterates can be calculated when an equation is iterated over the rational numbers or a number field. The method also helps identify special solutions.
