School of Infection & Immunity Senior Lecturer in Parasitology Dr Nicola Veitch last night received a prestigious award at the Amplify Showcase & MVLS Engagement Awards 2022.

School of Infection & Immunity Senior Lecturer in Parasitology Dr Nicola Veitch last night received a prestigious award at the Amplify Showcase & MVLS Engagement Awards 2022.

Highlighting exceptional public engagement projects, and engaged researchers, from each of the eight MVLS schools, the ceremony was took place at the Glasgow Science Centre on Wednesday 8 March.

Project lead Dr Veitch collected the Public Engagement Project award as part of the ongoing, cross-College of MVLS collaboration, Parasite Street Science (pictured).

This outreach programme provided a model for public engagement of African Sleeping Sickness and enhancing trust in scientists within affected communities in Malawi.

Staff created and toured new interactive street theatre performances, collaborating with key stakeholders including scientists and community members affected by the disease.

Furthermore, Sii colleague Dr Tansy Hammarton was highly commended for her #GermsGalore project, as was Parasitology Research Assistant Dr Lauren Carruthers, whose Parasites in Stitches was recognised in the Engaged ECR of the Year category.
