Abstract

In this presentation Nicola will discuss a project investigating the sense of belonging and self-efficacy of students studying business at the University of Otago. One paper has already been published from this study ("An examination of self-efficacy and sense of belonging on accounting student achievement"), and during her presentation she will discuss the next paper that examines students studying economics, management, accounting and finance.

Bio

Dr Nicola Beatson is the NZ president of the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ), and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Otago. Her research is predominately focused on non-cognitive aspects of accounting education. Nicola has been awarded several teaching accolades, including ‘Overall Premier Lecturer’ for the University in 2018 and receiving a 2019 Otago Excellence in Teaching Award. In 2022, Nicola received the Otago Business School “Outstanding Early Career Researcher” award. Nicola is an Associate Editor for Accounting Education, and on the Editorial Review Board for Journal of Accounting Education.
