Scotland’s oldest working distillery, The Glenturret in Perthshire, has appointed alumna Jennie Baernreuther (BA Psychology and Business Management, 2005) as its new Managing Director. Jennie, who has extensive experience in the global drinks industry and is passionate about luxury products, will lead the business as they approach their 261st Anniversary celebrations.

“I am thrilled to be joining The Glenturret as Managing Director, at this exciting stage of the journey,” Jennie said on her appointment. “The Glenturret has a unique proposition in the industry that I am confident will deliver strong future growth and prosperity.”

"During my time at Glasgow, I knew I was interested in International Business Development and even did an assignment on the godfather of Japanese Whisky, Masataka Taketsuru (also UofG alumni) and the development of the Japanese Whisky Market. Little did I know that 20 years on I would be managing Scotland oldest working distillery!" she told us.

As well as her passion for the luxury drinks sector, Jennie is a big proponent of empowering women in business and breaking down the walls that women face in the workplace.

"As a woman in a leadership role, I have always felt a responsibility to ensure other women are given the opportunity to excel in their careers without prejudice or compromise."

The Glenturret distillery was officially established in 1763, but illicit distillation by early whisky makers seeking to evade taxation dates production of the spirit on the site back to as early as 1717. The distillery currently produces 340,000 litres of the Scottish national drink a year. With such a long history, the distillery has a rich culture and many fascinating stories to tell: including once employing a record-breaking cat- Towser the Mouser- as its official mouse catcher! The tortoiseshell tabby was estimated to have caught 28,899 mice across her 24-year career.

Congratulations on your new role, Jennie!
