Carbon Cycle Research in Tropical Africa

Building capacity by deploying portable, low-cost CO2 analysers

The project will develop, deploy, and test a cheap, reliable alternative for measuring soil CO2 to empower academics in LMIC countries by building expertise and capability in the field of carbon cycle research. The collaboration with ANPN Gabon expands on a lab-built instrument, developed at the University of Glasgow, that is easy for users to operate, repair, and construct themselves from low-cost components. By optimising the instrument, and developing a training programme for LMIC field use, the collaboration will enable Gabonese academics in a more comprehensive program of soil carbon flux measurements to feed directly into national carbon accounting databases.
