We were delighted to hear that our joint bid with Glasgow Life and the National Libraries of Scotland to the Heritage Lottery Fund, to transform Glasgow's historic Kelvin Hall into a new centre for excellence for the study of cultural heritage collections, had been successful."

Professor Gaimster continues: "The Report details the success of The Hunterian's strategy to combine innovation and excellence in academic and public engagement with its world class collections. Our special exhibition programme, most notably Allan Ramsay: Portraits of the Enlightenment, attracted widespread critical and media interest. We anticipate our 2014 programme, with our lead themes of Scottish Gold and Mackintosh Architecture, contributing to the 2014 Commonwealth Games cultural otfer, being equally compelling.

"The Hunterian's success in enhancing the student experience has been recognised by the UK Higher education sector. ln 2013 The Hunterian Associates Programme for post-graduate researchers was shortlisted for a prestigious Times Higher Education Award in the Outstanding Support for Early Career Researchers category. Our student engagement activity goes from strength to strength. The rising number of student contacts - two thousand Universíty of Glasgow students during 2013 - demonstrates the enduring power of our collections to stimulate and inspire."
