Gates Reference Case launched

Professor Andy Briggs, Chair of Health Economics, has been instrumental in the development of the Gates Reference Case a principle-based standardised methodology for good practice in the delivery of economic evaluation to aid priority setting in health.

NICE International has launched the Gates Reference Case, a principle-based standardised methodology for good practice in the planning, conduct and reporting of economic evaluation for informing priority setting in health.

Professor Andy Briggs, Chair of Health Economics from the Institute of Health and Wellbeing was a co-author to the reference case report and chaired the workshop in Seattle last year that facilitated the discussion that led to the report, Methods for Economic Evaluation Project (MEEP).‌Andy Briggs

A key output of MEEP was the production of the Gates Reference Case which was funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Senior academics, donors and policy makers attended the launch at the Houses of Parliament followed by a technical workshop to discuss why and how the Gates Reference Case was developed and what it means for researchers, donors, and policy makers working in low and middle income countries as well as next steps in the development and implementation of the ref case.
