DJ’s Annual University Christmas staff party is just around the corner.  On Friday 12th December the staff party will be held at the Glasgow University Union where party-goers will be treated to a disco, karaoke, raffle and buffet.

The party, organised by Derek Johnston a Maintenance Services Supervisor with Estates and Buildings, aims to raise money for The Make a Wish Foundation. Last year the event raised over £3,000 for the charity which grants 'magical' wishes for children and young people facing life threatening conditions.

There were special guest appearances from “70’s Stars” at last year’s party and this year’s will be no different. However which “stars” turn up on the night remains a secret!

Derek says: “Everyone should come along because it is fun, there are cheap drinks and it’s a great night out. It’s a chance for staff from all different departments to mingle and get to know each other”

“Initially I wanted to organise a social event just for my department but it has grown over the past three years. At last year’s party we had over 300 people attend.”

A buffet is included on the night which has kindly been donated by the Ferguson Bequest. This is a fund established when Professor Tom Ferguson bequeathed his estate to the University in 1977, with the instruction that the money be used to foster the social side of University life. The GUU have donated the hall for the party to be held in.

The event will run from 7 pm to 1 am with a buffet served at about 9 pm. Tickets cost £10 and are available to all staff at the University however Derek warns they are selling fast.
