The University's Student Services team stepped in to host members of the Jamaican squad - including members of Usain Bolt's family - over the duration of the Commonwealth Games.

The University's student services team hosted members of the Jamaican delegation - including members of the Bolt family - over the duration of the Commonwealth Games.

Following some last minute logistical issues with accommodation at the Athletes' Village, 20 members of the Jamaican team were given emergency accommodation at the university.   Key members of the Campus Services Division, led by Neil Campbell, pulled out all the stops to give them a great experience of Glasgow 2014 - even making provisions to allow them to watch the games at the student residences.

Their help even extended to arranging transport – and sometimes driving the team members themselves – to and from the athletes’ village and other venues.

The team – with help from Campus Security and Transport Services – were praised by the members of the Jamaican delegation who visited the University on Thursday.

Key members of the Jamaican delegation - Major Desmond Brown, Chef d'Affaires of Jamaican Delegation, Anthony Davies and Mr and Mrs Bolt Senior and family - met with the university staff involved to thank them for their hospitality.

They presented them with Jamaican flags as a token of their stay, and the University presented them with a quaich to remember their visit.
