Peking University (PKU) founded in 1898 is the oldest higher education institution in China, a public university and China’s first national comprehensive university. It consists of 55 schools and departments, 60 research entities, and ten affiliated hospitals. There are more than 48,600 students (including nearly 2,500 international students) as well as over 12,600 faculty and staff members. Peking University is partnered with nearly 400 universities and research institutions in more than 60 countries.

The campus, known as "Yan Yuan", the gardens of Yan, is situated at the northeast of the Haidian District at the western suburbs of Beijing. It stands near the Yuan Ming Gardens and the Summer Palace.
