English Language at the University of Glasgow offers world-leading expertise in modern English language and linguistics, English historical linguistics, Scots and English in Scotland, and medieval English studies.

Leading research and teaching
In 2008, the Research Assessment Exercise rated English Language in the UK’s top 10% for the quality of our research. Our most recent Teaching and Learning Assessment (2009) commended our “enthusiasm”, our “inclusive attitude to students” and our “commitment to student support at the level of the individual student”.
Our University Library is one of the most significant in the UK. Special facilities include a phonetics laboratory with a recording studio and acoustic analysis software, made available to our undergraduate honours and postgraduate students.
