We are delighted to welcome you to our University. Before you become an official University of Glasgow student, you must complete Visa Registration.

The University is required to check the immigration status for all students who are not nationals of the UK or Ireland, including home fee payers and those who do not require a Student Visa.

Visa Registration Information

Who needs to complete Visa Registration?

All students who are not nationals of the UK or Ireland must complete Visa Registration when starting their studies or starting a new study career. This includes students who do not require a visa to study in the UK and entered the country with an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), students attending summer schools or short study periods, or students coming for a single semester.

 

What do I need to bring to my appointment?

At your appointment, you must bring:

• Your passport (or travel document if you are have refugee status)
• Your share code (in case you have not uploaded it or we need to check it again) if you applied for your visa outwith the UK, or Document Checklist/Application Form if you applied for your visa from within the UK
• Your travel details (e.g. boarding pass, flight itinerary, or e-ticket) so that we can confirm your arrival date in the UK

If you are an asylum seeker, you must bring all pages of your BAIL 201 document and your Application Registration Card (ARC). This must be the original documents, not copies or digital versions.

You must also be ready to confirm:

• Your current UK address at the time of your appointment. Please make sure that you know your flat and room numbers
• Your contact number
• Your personal email address

 

What should I do before my appointment?

You should upload a copy of your passport and your eVisa Share Code, if you have one, to the UofG Helpdesk via our Immigration Update Form during your Academic Registration. If you are a refugee and do not have a passport, you should upload a copy of your Travel Document, if you have one. You should upload your documents to the Helpdesk at least one working day before your apppointment in order for the Student Immigration Hub to have time to process them.

I completed my previous course at UofG (including pre-sessional studies) on a Student Visa and am progressing to a new course at UofG - what do I need to do before my appointment?

You should upload a copy of your passport to the UofG Helpdesk via our Immigration Update Form during your Academic Registration.

If you have not yet received your new visa, you should also upload your UKVI Application Form or Document Checklist. If you have already received your eVisa, please get your Share Code and upload it via the Immigration Update Form.

If you have not yet submitted your new visa application, you must submit it before your current visa expiry date, or six weeks after the start date of your new course (whichever is earlier).

If your new programme requires ATAS clearance, you cannot start your programme until after your ATAS certificate is approved.

 

Get your eVisa Share Code

 

I completed a previous course at another university or Glasgow International College (GIC) and am now applying for a new UK visa in the UK - what do I need to do before my appointment?

You should upload a copy of your passport and a share code for your previous visa to the  via our Immigration Update Form during your Academic Registration.

You can only start your UofG programme once you have submitted your new visa application. You should therefore ensure that you apply for your visa before attending Visa Registration (you do not need to have been issued with your new visa to attend).

If you previously studied at a different UK institution or at GIC, but you hve now left the UK and applied for your visa outwith the UK, please follow the guidance in the 'I applied for my Student Visa from outwith the UK and received an eVisa - when can I travel to the UK?' section above.

If your new programme requires ATAS clearance, you cannot start your programme until after your ATAS certificate is approved.

 

I have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme, or live in the UK with another non-Student Visa immigration status - what do I need to do before my appointment?

You should upload a copy of your passport to the  via our Immigration Update Form during your Academic Registration. You should also view your visa status to get your Share Code and upload it as well.

 

I already live in the UK and have a non-Student Visa immigration status, but none of the above categories apply to me - what do I need to do before my appointment?

You should upload a copy of your passport to the  via our Immigration Update Form during your Academic Registration. You should also view your visa status to get your Share Code and upload it as well.

If you have a Graduate Visa, you are not permitted to study. You must apply for a Student Visa using your CAS in plenty of time before your course starts, as you can only begin studying when you have your Student Visa.

 

I applied for my Student Visa from outwith the UK and received an eVisa - when can I travel to the UK?

Do not use an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to enter the UK in place of a Student Visa, as this will not allow you to study your programme.

After your visa is issued, you must ensure that you only travel to the UK on or after the visa start date. Travelling before your visa is approved and valid may result in you being denied boarding on to your flight, or being refused entry to the UK.

You must not attempt to travel to the UK before your visa has been fully issued.

 

I am a UK or Irish citizen, but my Student Record shows my nationality as a different country, or I am shown as an international student - do I need to attend Visa Registration?

If your Student Record shows your nationality as a country other than the UK or Ireland, please upload a copy of your UK or Irish passport during Academic Registration.

If you are a Home student, please visit the link below for information how to obtain your Campus Card. If you are an International student with UK or Irish nationality, you should attend Visa Registration with your passport to collect your Campus Card. You do not need to book an appointment.
