Introduction to email in Outlook

In this introductory session delegates will use Microsoft Outlook 2010 to send and receive email, create and maintain contacts and distribution lists, attach files, create and use folders. A sound knowledge of Windows, as provided by the Effective File Management in Windows 7 course is required.

Outlook: Arranging appointments, meetings and tasks
Half a day
Learn how to use the Outlook 2010 functions to create and edit appointments, set up meetings and invite attendees, create tasks and assign tasks to others. A sound knowledge of Windows, as provided by the Effective File Management in Windows 7 course and a basic understanding of email is required.

Web Search Skills

In this course delegates are shown the techniques required to search the web effectively. Find information resources, search online databases, use specific search criteria, Subject Gateways and evaluate web pages. An understanding of the Windows environment is required.

Web Publishing using T4
Half a day
t4 Content Management System is the method of web publishing in the university supported by the web team. In this session delegates will learn how to create a new website or migrate an existing website, using T4.
Using HTML to create Web pages
2 x 2 hours
Using basic HTML editing you will be shown how you can create several web pages and link them together as the basis for a web site. You will also be shown how to create lists and tables, add images and links and upload pages to a web server. Advice on good layout is included. An understanding of basic computing is required.
WebBASE Workshop Part 1 - MySQL YourDATA
Half a day
In this session delegates will build MySQL databases efficiently, respond to data manipulation issues and perform well formed queries. Familiarity with computing concepts and knowledge of basic Unix commands required.

In part 2 of this course delegates will use Php. Familiarity with MySQL as in Part 1 of this workshop and knowledge of basic Unix commands required.

In this half day session delegates will learn how to set up questionnaires on the web and access the resulting data using common desktop applications. Knowledge and experience of web publishing required.

Mahara: What you Need to Know

In this single 2-hour session, delegates will learn how to:
- Populate their Mahara Profile.
- Set up and maintain their Portfolio
- Upload files to Mahara
- Setup a blog
- Setup a group
- Create and share a view
Course attendees MUST have a valid Moodle login or they WILL NOT be able to access Mahara.
