General information and booking conditions

(Please read carefully)

Who may attend the courses?
All University of Glasgow staff and students. External delegates may attend if space permits.
Subject to availability, staff of the University's validated institutions can access courses/events provided by the University's Senate Office, Staff Development Service, Learning and Teaching Centre and IT Services.

Where are the courses held?
The vast majority of our courses are held in the Jura and Islay Labs, Level 4 Annexe,  and room 1022 teaching cluster on level 10,  in the University Library. (Map location D:11 Campus map) Full details are contained in course joining instructions.

How much do the courses cost?
Courses are offered free of charge to all University staff and students.

Staff of University of Glasgow validated institutions may also attend free of charge unless the course is credit bearing.

All other external delegates must pay the current fee, which is £60 for a half day course and £120 for a full day.  The fee, which is payable in advance, is non-refundable, but if the delegate cancels, giving us more than 2 working days notice, an alternative date will be offered, where one is available.

What is ECDL?
ECDL is a widely recognised qualification you can attain by sitting tests in 7 IT related modules.  There is a cost involved in the undertaking of this qualification, but any courses you decide to attend in working towards that, are free of charge. More about ECDL

What is the IT Baseline?
The IT Baseline is a level of IT skill that the university recommends that students have. The IT Training Office runs courses to enable students to attain this level, and go beyond it if they wish. Information about Baseline course can be found on our Getting started page and on our IT Baseline FAQ page.

I am a member of staff/student. How do I book?
All courses must be booked in advance and places are offered on a strictly first-come-first-served basis. Bookings can be made online or by contacting IT Services Training.
Note: As some of our courses run over more than one session, please ensure that you are free to attend on all dates.

I am an external delegate. How do I book?
Send an email with details of the course/s you wish to book, plus the name of an Admin contact and your company's full address to courses@it.gla.ac.uk. We will then invoice you for the appropriate fee.

Is there a limit on how many courses I may attend?
Yes. If you try to learn too many new skills at once you will not learn effectively. Also, we want as many people as possible to have an opportunity to receive some training. Therefore, you may only book a maximum of 4 courses in any single term or vacation period.

What skills or experience do I need to attend a course?
All IT Services courses list any prerequisite skills and experience required for attendance at the point of booking. If you do not have the prerequisites you will not benefit from the course. IT Services reserves the right to ask you to leave a course if it becomes obvious that you do not have the necessary course prerequisites.

What happens once I submit my booking form?
You will receive email confirmation of your booking and then a reminder one week before the course date.

What happens if I find I can't attend a course for which I have booked?
Our courses are very popular and it is important to let us know of any cancellations so we can allocate the places to someone else.  You can cancel via the links section on our Training page or by following the link on your joining instructions. Non-attendances without cancellation will incur a fee.

What happens if I am late for a course?
Our training courses build on knowledge throughout the day, so prompt timekeeping is essential. If you have not registered 5 minutes before the course we reserve the right to refuse you entry.
