Off campus access
To use the VPN service you must have an existing account with an ISP, either dialup or broadband.
To access the service you should use your GUID and install the VPN (virtual private networking) software.
- Staff who have not already done so need to register for a GUID using our online registration

Connection
- Download and install the VPN software .
- Adjust browser proxy settings NOTE: you usually only need to do this if you require Library resources
We recommend you use a second browser such as Firefox , Safari etc.

IE Open Internet Explorer *. From the “Tools” menu select “Internet Options”. On the “Connections” tab choose “LAN Settings”. Check the box marked “Use automatic configuration script” **. Type in the following:
http://wwwcache.gla.ac.uk/glasgow.pac (note that there is no dot after www) - Connect to VPN using your
GUID and password
Open the Cisco Systems VPN Client (Start->Programs->Cisco Systems VPN Client), which you have just installed. Click “Glasgow University VPN”, then click “Connect”.
