Development and Alumni Office Staff

Ms Cathy Bell

Development Director 

Cathy manages the various elements that comprise the Development & Alumni Office. Broadly, this combines the Office's twin objectives of fund-raising from the external environment and continuing to develop a programme to promote good relations with the University's alumni. She has worked in the University's development function since 1987.

Ms Amanda McKeown

Deputy Director

Amanda joined the Development & Alumni Office in 1998 and was appointed Deputy Director of Development in 2003. Her first project at the University was managing the campaign for a new Medical School Building. She now works with the Development Team on all of the University's priority campaigns and supports the Director on various development activities.

Mrs Emily Howie

Alumni Relations Manager (on maternity leave)

 

Ms Sarah Richardson

Acting Alumni Relations Manager

Sarah is covering Emily Howie's maternity leave and is responsible for the University's global network of graduates. In this role she manages the alumni relations function of the office, including alumni services, fundraising and events. She also coordinates specific projects including the telephone campaign, the bequest programme and annual programme of alumni events.

Mrs Barrie Bryson

Alumni Development Officer p/t (Maternity Cover)

Barrie is currently supporting alumni fundraising and is Project Officer for the Chancellor's Fund. She is responsible for the University's bequest programme and works closely with the wider Alumni Team. Barrie also continues to run the capital campaign for the Scottish Centre for Ecology and the Natural Environment, SCENE.

Mrs Emma Sloan

International Development Officer

Emma works closely with Fiona Quinn and Emily Howie to help deliver the Development & Alumni Office’s international fundraising and alumni objectives. In particular, she is responsible for building and strengthening relationships with the University’s donors and prospective donors form the United States and Canada.

Miss Jessica Constable

Alumni Assistant

Jessica joined the DAO in 2006 and was appointed Alumni Assistant in 2009. Her roles include upholding good alumni relations, organising alumni events and maintaining GU World. Jessica also works closely with Sarah Richardson to organise and manage biannual telethons.

Miss Laura Henaghan

Alumni Programmes Project Officer

Laura is working as part of a project team across Development and Alumni, Careers Services and Recruitment and International to develop and establish a sustainable Alumni Volunteer Programme. This will engage GU Alumni Ambassadors to support recruitment and to become part of an Alumni Careers Network which will enhance the employability of University of Glasgow students.

Database Team

Mr James Coleman

Database Manager

James is responsible for overseeing the alumni and donor database and for all aspects of data management including the university's online Benefactor Wall, as well as ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of GUWorld. James is also project managing the expansion of access to the database as a single source of contact management information.

Mr Pete Speak

Alumni Programmes Database Officer

Pete was formerly the Senior Finance Assistant in the DAO. He is now responsible for managing the existing data held on Raiser's Edge to help sustain a successful Alumni Volunteer Programme. Additionally, he will develop existing recording procedures, identify and investigate external web technologies and look to integrate these with existing University databases.

Mrs Kirsty Craig (p/t)

Events & Medicine Manager

Kirsty manages medical fundraising within the office. Her current priority is the Beatson Pebble Appeal which aims to build the Glasgow Centre for Cancer Research. She also manages Development & Alumni Office events including fundraising events, opening of buildings and alumni events.

Ms Lindsey Donald

Development Officer for Cancer

Lindsey joined the Development & Alumni Office in June 2006 and her current focus is on Events and Fundraising for Cancer projects. Her background is in Fundraising and Marketing having directed a major capital campaign.

Mrs Sarah Hunter (p/t)

Development & Alumni Officer, School of Veterinary Medicine

Sarah works with the School of Veterinary Medicine to take forward their fundraising priorities and acts as first point of contact for Vet alumni including support for the organisation of reunion events.

Mr David Miller

Scholarships Development Officer

David joined the Development & Alumni Office in 2004 and was appointed Scholarships Development Officer in 2008. He is the primary contact for donors of scholarships, bursaries and prizes and for the development of the Scholarships Fund, which includes Glasgow Talent Scholarships, Glasgow Excellence Awards and Travel Scholarships. He is also editor of Giving to Glasgow, the fundraising magazine for alumni and friends of the University.

Mrs Laura Morton

Medical Development Officer

Laura joined the Development & Alumni Office in May 2007 as Medical Development Officer. She has responsibility for managing the donations to the Medical Fund and works with the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences in allocating these funds to the priority projects.

Donor Relations Officer

Fiona joined the Development & Alumni Office in 2001. She is responsible for building and strengthening relationships with the University's donors and prospective donors. She works closely with the Director, Deputy Director, research team and development officers to help deliver the Development & Alumni Office's fundraising objectives.

Miss Clare Laidlaw

Events Manager

Clare is Events Manager for both the Development & Alumni Office and Corporate Communications. She is responsible for the planning, organisation and management of events that come out of both departments.

Ms Bicola Barratt-Crane

Events Assistant (maternity cover)

Bicola joined the Development & Alumni Office in 2007 and was appointed Events Assistant in 2011. Her role is to promote and support the DAO and Corporate Communications through the fundraising, stewardship, alumni and corporate events programmes. She works closely with Clare Laidlaw of the Events Team and Sarah Richardson of the Alumni Team.

Miss Fiona Donnelly

Events Co-ordinator (p/t)

Fiona joined the University of Glasgow in March 2009 and co-ordinates events for both the Development & Alumni Office and Corporate Communications. Fiona works closely with Clare Laidlaw and Angela Campbell on the planning, organisation and management of events for both departments.

Research Team

Ms Morna Black

Research Manager

Morna has worked in development research for over ten years. She has special research responsibility for the Beatson Pebble Appeal, Scottish Centre for Ecology and the Natural Environment (SCENE), Scholarships and the Medical Fund campaigns and provides research on a wide range of issues including potential sources of funding (e.g. charitable trusts, companies and individuals) for the rest of the Development & Alumni Office's portfolio of projects. In addition, she provides assistance to the Database Manager on Raiser's Edge issues.

Val Hamilton (p/t)

Research Assistant

Val supports Morna Black in carrying out research on potential funding sources for the Development & Alumni Office's portfolio of projects. In particular, she provides research support for the Vet School Campaign.

Mrs Ann Logan

Resource & Support Manager

Ann joined the Development & Alumni Office in 2000 and is responsible for the administration and finance functions with the department.

Mrs Ann Campbell

Senior Secretary

Ann is PA to the Chancellor, Professor Sir Kenneth Calman, and to the Director of Development, Mrs Cathy Bell. She is also responsible for key tasks relating to office administration and is the departmental purchasing officer. Ann is administrator to the University of Glasgow Trust.

Miss Julie Smith

Departmental Secretary

Julie assists with administration within the office. She acknowledges letters, answers telephone enquiries and carries out general office duties.

Mrs Susanne Hill (p/t)

Secretary

Susanne is Secretary to Sir Michael Bond, Clerk of the Chancellor’s Fund Advisory Board and provides assistance to the General Council Clerk. She also provides administrative support for the events function and organises fundraising events.
