Abstract

Wolbachia is a maternally transmitted reproductive parasite, which is commonly found in arthropod species. Recent research suggests that certain Wolbachia strains can be used to block for example Dengue virus replication in mosquitos. Hence genetically modified Wolbachia strains may well represent the future tool to eradicate vector borne diseases. We formulate and analyze structured partial differential equation models to better understand Wolbachia infection dynamics in arthropod populations.
