Abstract

A chain map between the chain complexes of simplexes is order-preserving if it takes sums of standard basis elements to sums of standard basis elements. This talk concerns the class of order-preserving chain maps which are also augmentation-preserving. The simple external algebraic description leads to a surprisingly intricate internal algebraic description. The class can also be described combinatorially, and it has applications in higher category theory.
