Abstract

Special Lagrangian n-folds are a distinguished class of volume-minimizing submanifolds that exist in special types of Kahler manifolds (Calabi-Yau manifolds). The geometry of special Lagrangian n-folds has close connections to Mirror Symmetry via the Strominger-Yau-Zaslow (SYZ) conjecture. To understand the SYZ conjecture singular special Lagrangian n-folds necessarily appear. This talk will give an introduction to special Lagrangian geometry and survey some of the recent progress on understanding the simplest singular special Lagrangians, focusing on the recent gluing constructions of special Lagrangian cones of Kapouleas and the author.
