December 1941, Professor Evan Mawdsley Evan Mawdsley’s two main areas of research interest are twentieth-century Russia and the Second World War. His teaching at the University of Glasgow in Scotland has run alongside writing on the Russian Revolution and Civil War, on the Stalin period in Russia, and on the political elite of the Soviet Period. More recently his interests have moved into the period of the Second World War, with Thunder in the East: The Nazi-Soviet War (Bloomsbury, 2005), and World War II: A New History (Cambridge University Pres, 2009). His history of the critical world events at the time of the Battle of Moscow and Pearl Harbor, December 1941, was published by Yale University Press in October 2011. He is currently general editor of the Cambridge History of the Second World War
