The School of Education warmly thanks Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli for his leadership and support during his tenure as Principal of the University of Glasgow. From the outset, Anton recognised and championed the School’s distinctive role as a full-spectrum institution. The School spans early years to adult and lifelong learning, and maintains a special commitment to Catholic Education. At a time when many in the sector narrowed their scope, his encouragement allowed us to maintain our breadth, strengthen our international reach, and grow through targeted investment in research and partnerships.

Today, the School enters a new chapter from a position of strength. We are the third largest research-intensive School of Education in the UK, and one of the few globally to have successfully integrated professional formation at scale with world-leading and locally relevant research. Consistently ranked among the world’s top 100, financially resilient, and nationally mandated through the new Centre for Teaching Excellence, we are well placed to shape the future of education in Scotland and beyond.

We are delighted to welcome Professor Andy Schofield as the University’s new Principal and look forward to working with him to advance our shared mission. Together we will continue delivering world-class education and research, serving Scotland, and contributing to global scholarship and practice.
