Onomastics Reading Group

The Onomastics Reading Group (or Onomastication) meets roughly fortnightly on a Thursday at 12 noon in term-time to discuss anything and everything relating to name studies. This ranges from onomastic theory to the names of omelettes to names in medieval charters; presentations have been given by students and academics from Glasgow and other institutions on a range of subjects including Ainmean-Àite na h-Alba (Gaelic Place-Names of Scotland), the digitisation of the place-name series in Denmark and personal naming patterns in Scotland; one meeting included sampling single malts in the name of onomastic research.

Everyone with an interest in name studies is very welcome to join in. The group will meet by Zoom fortnightly at 12 noon on a Thursday, and if you are interested in joining please email Brittnee Leysen, b.leysen.1@research.gla.ac.uk
