Professor Simon Frith

Simon Frith has been Tovey Professor of Music at the University of Edinburgh since 2006, moving there from the University of Stirling, where he was a Professor of Film and Media. He is a sociologist with a particular interest in music policy, which he has researched as both an academic and a journalist for many years. He has published widely and is the author of Performing Rites (1996). His policy research includes the co-authored Mapping the Music Industry in Scotland (2003), prepared for Scottish Enterprise. Simon was a co-investigator of the AHRC-funded study of creativity in policy and practice based at CCPR and he is currently principal investigator of an AHRC-funded research project on the live music sector in Britain. He is a participant in the Centre's Policy Conversations.
